The Seed of the Advisor
Even as a 12-year-old, I was the unexpected source of counsel. People just came up to me—"John, how do I do this?" "How can I help someone through my advice?" From relationship woes to practical how-tos, I was the informal, natural advisor. Looking back, that early calling was the first sign of my true purpose. I was built to help people navigate their messy, complicated lives.
The Defining Heartbreak

My ability to advise others, didn't make me immune to my own pain. I entered a relationship that quickly became serious, culminating in an engagement just six months later. I thought I had found the one; I thought I was set. Then, bam, it was over.
I was utterly heartbroken. I spent a long period moping, lost in the confusion of a life plan that had just been ripped away. It was an emotional low, but it planted the first seed of self-reflection: If I could help others, how could I not help myself?
The Descent into Uncertainty

Years later, I found myself in another damaging situation—a situationship that left me truly adrift. My head was fuzzy. I was in a detrimental space. To make matters worse, I lost my job. I was working two jobs trying to make ends meet, but more than money, I desperately needed to find my spark, my passion. I was doing everything to stay afloat, yet I felt like I was drowning.
This was my turning point. I realized that if I wanted to find my purpose, I had to stop looking outside myself and start digging in.
Forged in Fire: The Path to Clarity

I fought back not just with work, but with self-work.
I found my anchor in meditation, which quieted the noise in my fuzzy head. I found release and focus in exercise and running, channeling my frustration into positive movement. Crucially, I immersed myself in positive community, just being around people who uplifted me. I committed to the process and didn't stop.
I was processing eight years of intense emotional life. The best way I could do that was by writing it all down. That process resulted in my book, which became a tool for my readers and a mirror for myself.

Today, I own John Michael Knight and Inspiring Change. These aren't just businesses; they are the physical manifestation of my journey. I took all the pain, the heartbreak, the confusion, and the years of searching, and I turned it all into a singular purpose: to help others skip the long, painful search that I went through.
There is no other way to help people than by genuinely showing them what is possible. And what is possible is this: We can take the worst things that have ever happened to us and use them as the fuel for our greatest passion.
I believe in my work; it's helped me massively, and I hope it does the same for you. We are exactly where we need to be in life right now, and all we have to remember is that the struggle was never against us—it was setting us up for something more.
